ATI drivers - myth or reality? - Page 3

Ive never had an issue. Ill report back when i have 2 cards.
It's neither myth or reality.

Both teams have their issues. I've never had much of a problem with ATI/AMD and in Crossfire mode and same for Nvidia.. Then again, I'm not a noob about uninstalling/reinstalling drivers.

10.11e no issues and the same with 10.12. I'm blaming it on the user.

More myth I think - both ATI and NVidia have dropped the ball at various times. For me it comes down to cost, and for the cards I use, ATI offers more for the dollar, even if they suffer slightly in ultimate performance. ATI is prone to drop support, but then, NVidia does the same - so it is a wash in the end. Buy for whatever features and cost you want.

I think half the time, it is brain damaged installs that cause driver failures, rather than the drivers themselves. This is true in general, for any devices. Like, how many people try to install a new driver over the old - even when the instructions explicitly tell you that you must completely uninstall the old driver and reboot first...

Installed 10.11e when they came out, didn't touch them since in this computer, no a single problem yet. It's more likely that people get problems due OS combinations with old drivers and specific features.

The only time I ever had issues was right when the 5870 came out but that was fixed as drivers caught up to hardware.

I stack drivers, I dont uninstall anything I just download and install the new one's, works great, never have issues. I think the problems people have stem from going nuts with driver sweeper and all these convoluted process' everyone seems to think are necessary. Just install and go

Somewhat of a myth. It tends to mostly be true of the older series in Crossfire. There are far less issues with the 6XXX series.

For single cards, it is most definitely a myth. I've been through at least six ATI cards of different series and have not had even a single minor issue. Some people will have problems with them, just as they do with any other hardware. NVIDIA people also have issues with drivers. I think it's the relatively poor CF performance with the older series that makes people think there'll always be an issue.
