ATI drivers - myth or reality? - Page 7

Totally a MYTH... The new generation of techno-nerds-geeks, sitting alone all day in front of their computer, can't, and will NEVER believe, no matter what you tell them, that THEY are the cause of the problem X-Y-Z they have with their systems... and they will ALWAYS say their problems are caused by the manufacturers drivers. It's I-M-P-O-S-S-I-B-L-E for them to comprehend that fact, and accept that fact, because they are so L-E-E-T! (just kidding here...).

It's called PEBKAC. A well known internet disease. Spreading like a cancer in our homes via the internet. Sadly, afffecting more and more people everyday.

This ''sickness'' is almost worst then the myth from the ''golden-eyes'' (think golden-ears in audio...) that can ''see'' micro-stuttering (think ''I see dead people'' here)...

3 system at home: Tri-Fire 5970+5870 at 1000/1200, and 2 with 2X 4870 in Crossfire, all heavely OC'd. I cant' remember the last time I had any problems/freeze/bug/BSOD in the last year with those 3 computers. We play LAN games fou hours everyday without a single problems.

And yes techno-geeks can go out with the hottest chick at school! Look at my wife! (my avatar). Another myth busted!

Agreed.

Never had problems with any graphics drivers(ATI or Nvidia). Any issue was caused by my own doing and resolved with some simple fixes that many of the software illiterates fail to do.

I've never owned top off the line cards but every ATI card I've run caused headaches with driver issues.

yeah, that drop in fps after latest driver update is a myth also crashing and everything else. Everything is a myth. (by now you understand how much of a joke is this statement)

I personally took 5870 before 470 and couldn't make it stretch on full 42" screen :/ found in google lots of explaining how to do it and after i just took 470 and was happy. Tho the person who got that 5870 is fine. Did a new build for him with clean install and 21" screen. Works fine never heard him complaining.

Old post but, just one of first with google "bad ati drivers"

10.10e, 'nough said, but i'll say some more, ATI releases drivers for which they provide hotfix(es) a few days later for because they are crap. I owned a 5970 and when it worked it was great, but in so many games you get to a point where CFX crashes the game and you have to disable it etc...

I have had no problem like this with SLI and SLI can run in windowed mode.

No driver will ever be flawless. I had high DPC latency issues on my GTX 460 SLI setup. I had crossfire slow down on 4870 CF.

ATI bad driver reputation is overblown imho. If they are bad, then they are not that far off from Nvidia.

I remember at one point NVIDIA drivers actually ramped up the fan killing cards. Now I NEVER remember that happening on ANY ATI / AMD driver releases.

As has been stated, drivers are NEVER going to be perfect. Do you know how many different combinations of hardware they need to write drivers for? It's not an exact science.
