Phenom 2 x4 940BE too Phenom 2 x4 955BE? - Page 2

post #11 of 23
take it from me... i got a 940BE (not OC'd) and a 6870 (1000/1250) and can run COD4 (a game u play) at all maxed out at a decent 250 - 450FPS (uncapped) but 250 capped

trust me a 940 ---> 955 = waste of $$$$$$

if ANYTHING just upgrade to 6870. then when bulldozer comes out then do a over haul. and just reuse the 6870 (thats what im doing ;D)

Running either the 940 or the 955 would be pretty dangerous, your board has a 4+1 power phase which I don't deem necessary for 125W processors. If you're getting a 955 just to overclock further, I say hold out and get a new board first - further overclocks stress the mosfets even more and with a weak power phase/no mosfet cooling it'll probably end up stressing it to infinity and beyond and you'll be back here telling us that your board caught fire.

I'd say save yourself money and drop another 5770 in there.

Upgrading from a 940 BE to 955 BE would be absolutely pointless and a waste of time. Only thing worth upgrading from the 940 BE to, is the 1090T / 1100T. And even then, you're not gaining much of a performance increase, because it's still just the same old Phenom II architecture as your 940 BE. ...Which does 3.7GHz just fine. So clock it to that and grab a faster card. I would know...

The only 100% safe multi with unheatsinked 4+1 power + tower HS + 125W processor = Stock.
Don't waste money on a mugen 2. Save for a better mobo.

Hi guys me again, so im stuck between 2 different graphics cards,
either

Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Far Cry 2
or
XFX ATI Radeon HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
or
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Now all these cards are around 200pounds, the 480 on special so i cannot decide which would be the best choice, also considering the 6950 unlocks too a 6970 with the bios flash utility.

Please aid thank you.

IMO go with the 6950 2gb the o/c ability is just sick as hell and if u can afford its really good. its also one the best if not best bang for ur buck
