99.9% pure silver with distilled water?????

Hey Guys,

Recently my water cooling leaked and I lost alot of coolant frown.gif

When I put up a thread regarding the leak and asked guys what I should do people said that I should go to the jewelry store and ask for 99.9% pure silver and pop it in my res and I can pour distilled water in loop?

Could you guys pleqase confirm this?

Also how much should I ask for?

Oh and the reson for me not using PT nuke or kill coil is because I live in South Africa and shipping is expensive and will have to wait 7 - 10 days frown.gif

Thanks guys smile.gif

just use distill water....and no need for silver
post #3 of 52
yeah it has to be 99.9% pure silver, no coins.

Also make sure that it is not small enough to get sucked into the pump or tubing.
just buy the silver strip and the biocide from frozencpu.com. i just ordered mine yesterday. its like $10 for both.

dead wrong, don't listen to that guy. use the silver to prevent growth in your loop.

Do this, if you want cottage cheese growing in your loop...otherwise no.

Okay guys and like I said the reson I dont want to order the stuff in is coz of the wait and cost of shipping

So tommorrow I will go to the jewelry store and ask for 99.9% pure silver, but how many grams and will this stop the water from corroding my Ek Supreme HF Full Copper and Black Ice Rad?

And for distilled water can I go to the garage and ask for a bottle of water they put in the batterys?

Thanks guys

Unless you're using parts that are aluminium you won't need to worry about corrosion either way. As far as how much, just make sure whatever you get is bigger then the inlet of your pump so it doesn't get sucked into it.

Interestingly, I had a relatively large pure silver bar in my reservoir, yet the loop was full of some disgusting white stuff when I took it apart. All my nice clear Tygon tubes were totally opaque, it took me days to get everything (tubing, pumps, blocks, reservoir, radiators, valves and other fittings) cleaned. The water was distilled, so either some stuff still grew there despite the silver bar, or my Thermochills were not flushed properly. I find the latter explanation implausible since I first poured hot tap water through the Termochills, then filled them partially, shook, repeat, and finally let hot tap water pour through them for 6 hours each...

Now I use anti-freeze in addition to the distilled water, and I have left out the silver bar altogether. Last time I checked, everything was still nice and clean. I had two defective fittings on top of the case, so I let out water from the bottom valve, replaced the fittings, then poured the extracted water back in. It was still crystal clear (plus of course the blue hue from anti-freeze and dye). :>

that wasn't growth... ( key sign when something is growing in your loop is when your water turns green. )
