Ideally, If i do with this CPU, I'd like to try to push it to 4ghz. You guys honestly don't think I'd get a big FPS gain compared to my 965 @ 3.9ghz.

If you`ve looked to the link that I posted you would se that Ci7 has better FPS in 6/7 games and it`s running at 400MHz+ lower freq than AMD..

Ci7 clocked @ same clocks like AMD will only make AMD look even worse..

I`m not saying that PII X4 is a bad chip, not at all but I`m simply giving OP the facts..

I usually don't bump my own threads but do you guys think that's a fair price for the combo deal in the link above?

I wonder if he's selling that to get SB?

Idk, it's ur call - I personally wouldn't do it. I'd go with a 2500k instead. No point in investing in a socket that just got killed off.

What games are you gonna be playing?

You should look up the 2500k reviews to see how they compare to your current chip 1st of all.

Just save your money, there's no reason to go with i7 or SB at all. I took mobo/cpu coz of sick deal and had 965+ddr2 mobo. And i'm glad that my expenses didn't go above 10$ for that change

off-topic
Something strange, i was expecting 50+ posts convincing OP to buy SB...

Dunno about Biostar mbos though but 4+2 Power phase for CPU seems weak for Ci7 and serious OC..

MSI has pulled a stunt like this going for 4+1 Phases even on their 890FX G70 top line mobos for AMD and that led to blown MOSFET`s on CPU Power circutry and also some dead CPU`s..

If I can get a good 10-20+ fps gain in bfbc2 with everything maxed (aa/af) than I'd like to make the move. If not, I'll just stick with my AMD Setup. Also I have a possible buyer for my current cpu/mobo for $200. So it will cost me $135 to upgrade to the i7.

Also I think that SandyBridge is better, more futureproof upgrade but it cost more.

If you go SB make sure you go with "K" modells as they have unlocked multiplier and would allow you to OC beyond 4GHz easily..

Your question should be:

Is $135 worth the few fps you'd gain.

Only you can answer that.

If it were my money, I'd rather go with a SSD or an additional video card to run in Crossfire.

I vote that you turn this into a POLL so that we can then VOTE on it
