5870 cfx to gtx 580?

Thread Starter
The thing is that I'm completely tired with the quirks and tweaks of multi GPU setups. CFX profiles, inconsistent driver results, inconsistent game performance etc.

So yeah... I'm considering selling my 2 reference XFX 5870s and buying a gtx 580 to replace them.

Opinions?

Major downgrade, that's my opinion.

And there's no such thing as bad drivers, just bad installs from bad people who don't know how to upgrade drivers properly.

yeah when drivers crash badly or cause BSODs then yes it's mostly the users fault, but now I'm actually just talking about ATIs performance in cfx with the 5000 series.

It's a downgrade, but then you DO get physX and CUDA.. I'm running a gtx 570, and it's pretty quiet, I'm not sure how loud 5870s are, but my friend has a 5970 and that is much louder than my gtx 570.

It's up to you, you'll go from being able to max every game to being able to max every game.

and they're within a few percent of each other in situations where it matters?

what I want it less of a headache when I want to game, and yes 5870s are leaf blowers with custom fan profiles.

Look at some reviews, it's quite away slower then even a 5970, so Christ knows were you've got a few percent from as 5870 CF is even faster then a 5970.

And as someone who's had 5770 Tri-Fire and now 5850 Cross Fire I can say there's NOTHING wrong with 5000 series Cross Fire performance.

I had two 5770's pulling an average of 40fps with a min of 26fps at 1920x1080, default very high in Crysis....

There's nothing wrong with that

I vote that you go for one gtx 580. Less e-peen, but no more multi-gpu woes. Plus, minimum framerates won't be that much different, so once you replace your current setup with a slower single card, the on screen differences will be minimal (maybe no microstuttering) and you'll be able to appreciate quieter operation.

I have read many threads where someone went from CF to single gtx580/gtx570 and totally loved it. You cant just say that it is all bad driver installs when the same type of users install nvidia drivers and don't have nearly as many problems.

depends on the situation again, still with different cfx scaling from game to game the performance varies alot. And really now you can't say to me that you've never had any issues with cfx setups...

And as someone who's had 5770 Tri-Fire and now 5850 Cross Fire I can say there's NOTHING wrong with 5000 series Cross Fire performance.

just look at ATIs driver history and the reviews for those from a time period of 1 year, there have been, are and will be problems with cfx

I had two 5770's pulling an average of 40fps with a min of 26fps at 1920x1080, default very high in Crysis....

There's nothing wrong with that

yeah not anything wrong with that, actually it's awesome but what does it have to do with the topic
