Problems with 6970

Hi!

I recently bought a Sapphire 6970 and after a while I started getting problems with it. I first installed the 10.12a Hotfix drivers. At random times the GPU would underclock itself to 500mhz on the core, and the only way to get it back up to 880mhz, (which is stock) I had to reboot the computer. When this started happening like every day, I went and un-installed the drivers, did a Driver sweeper run, and installed 10.12 drivers instead. Now I get BSOD's when starting videos sometimes, says atikmpdag.sys or something and that the drivers stopped working and has been recovered.

I also play Black Ops a lot, and it freezes there too. When I launch the game it freezes/hangs for 30 seconds every time I try to find a server. And in-game it just freezes after some games, leaving a weird noise and black dots on the screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del fixes the problem, but it happends more frequently now. I have an overclocked i7 920, but I don't think that is the problem, I am not really sure what to believe.

Hope some of you can help

For the sake of experiment, try to drop your RAM clocks. Those AMD driver issues were somewhat related to RAM for me, though RAM passed all tests I throw at it

Same problems here. Black Ops freezes for me at the server menu every single time. I haven't tried waiting for over 10 seconds for it to come back though. I just ctrl + alt + del.

I'm waiting for the next driver revision, seems 6900 series cards are having issues with these drivers.

I get 20 Fps on CoD 4, which is like three times worse than my HD 4870...

Well...I waited a minute at the server browser screen and it actually populated. So thanks to the OP for that, at least I can freakin' play the game now.

As for clocks, my second card remained at 500/1250 while in game (should have been 800/1250).

I will be completely happy with these cards when ATi releases a driver that fully supports these cards and AB/RBE add support for 6900 series GPUs.

Not only me having problems then. I just can't believe they released the 69xx series without even having proper drivers for them, I guess they wanted the christmas sales or something.
