Having Rooted my Desire...

Thread Starter
I have just rooted my desire using evo3 and the video tutorial TheUnlockr.com and have a few questions.

Firstly, it was not explained in the tutorial what the Superuser Permissions bit did, when I open there is nothing showing, I assume this is normal.

Secondly, I am warey about upgrading to the newer versions of Android, namely 2.3 gingerbread and if possible 3.0. However I would like to know what downloads other people have used and found successful just so I don't **** anything up! =P

Thanks in advance!

Eddie.

Superuser is basically admin privileges. In order to perform certain actions within linux, commands must be run using the superuser command. By default superuser is turned off in Android to prevent stupid people from screwing up their phones like they screw up their windows machines. The superuser applications allows for programs to use superuser commands (which will pop up for you to allow/deny).

2.3 just came out, but since i use sense roms i haven't used a gingerbread rom for more than a few minutes to play around.

The best thing for HTC phones right now, are the DesireZ ports, as they have the new version of sense which bring a lot more features to the table.
Looked through the Desire forum, and this one looks like your best bet.

I'm running a desireZ port on my Incredible, and its awesome.

EDIT: In order to flash a new rom, you will have to install a custom recovery mode using a program like unrevoked. It will also allow you to make a complete backup of your phone.

Thanks a lot!

I have unrevoked already, and the clockwork recovery mod backed up and recovered my data automatically when I rooted with it.

Will I have to partition my SD? I'm sure I can find out how to do that. I am really quite new to all of this, but my understanding so far is that by rooting it allows me to delete the existing OS and put on a new ROM like the one you suggested?

All the best,

Eddie.

I just googled rooting and managed to find video tutorials which really helped me, and allowed me to successfully root my phone on virtually no knowledge whatsoever. Other than that I'm in the same boat as you. There are all these terms used like, ROMS, Themes, Froyo, ADB....etc and I have no Idea what they are yet.

The 2 sites that helped me the most were:

There's also Cyanogenmod (Currently 6.1.1) which is one of the best ROMs out there. Check them out. Cyanogen 7 is in the works by using the GB SDK. Once OTA updates for Gingerbread come out that will allow the devs to start porting some of the more proprietary drivers and what not from the update to their ROMs. I'd expect a fulyl functional GB ROM by the end of January.

I have just found out that the model of my Desire is BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON.

[EDIT]What kind of problems have people faced with the same model Desire? Also what is the difference between the GSM and CDMA Desire's?

Eddie.
