Cyanogenmod is the best vanilla rom out there.

[EDIT]What kind of problems have people faced with the same model Desire? Also what is the difference between the GSM and CDMA Desire's?

Eddie.
The only problems you would run into is trying to root on a newly updated phone that has a new bootloader and hasn't been cracked yet. Other than that, some people have had trouble with custom roms with the SLCD version of the HTC Incredible. I know Desires made after October have SLCD screens too, so you might run into problems if you got yours since then, but nothing that a nandroid restore can't fix.

Since you have a nandroid backup, i'd just flash a few roms to see how you like them. Cyanogen/vanilla roms are completely different animals than sense roms, and the DesireZ roms will feel like more polished versions of your current phone.

Cheers for that. Got mine in December so will have to see. There are lots of tutorials but they all say different things, using different programs, or some you partition, some you don't. I think the only way for me to learn about this will be trial and error. A lot of the stuff I have read requires some form of prior knowledge which is something I can't say I obtain. +rep for everyone I think!

All the best

Eddie.
