Building a nice video editing computer. Any suggestions? - Page 2

Actually, for the video editing it will probably not be Adobe CS5. It may be a simpler program than that. I will have to teach my brother in law how to run it and I am not familiar enough with CS5. I use Sony Vegas Pro but would still maybe not even use that as it is maybe a little above him. I just need a powerful computer to work with the AVCHD he is going to use.

That's fine, almost any type of video editing, rendering related tasks will benefit from CUDA, and almost none of those platforms will recognize a 2nd card, and well, I covered this in my previous post.

My suggestions:

CPU - 2600K - $317
MOBO - TBD $150 - $200 ( See my sig for reviews )
RAM - 8 GB Gskill - $109 Tighten up timings to 7-7-7-24 - If you wish to spend more, get 2000 MHZ RAM.
GPU - 1 570 @ $349
Cooler - NH-D14
HDD's - 2 x 1TB F3's - to be used separately, 1 as your scratch disk, the other as your rendering drive.
1 SSD as your boot drive - if you can wait for x25m 120GB to come back in stock, otherwise, that other Vertex 2 is fine - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-035-_-Product
If you want a Modular PSU for better cable management, go for this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-012-_-Product

Case I would go with an NZXT Phantom:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-068-_-Product

If you'd rather go with the x58 platform, see my sig rig. Though, I highly recommend the 2600K instead.

SSD (size)? Like I said to Celcoid that without adding any programs or such to my boot drive it still keeps getting fuller from different things. Is there a trick to keep that from happening?
I think I know what you are doing with the 1 HDD for raw/project files and
1 HDD for output/renders but is there something special I will need to do in the setup? I will need tons of storage for this all also, so 1TB is just too small.
What CPU do you suggest as most intel are still 4 core?
You don't need to do anything special with the HDDs, just point CS5/Vegas in the right direction in the project settings.

120GB SSD size will be fine; Windows eats quite a lot of HDD space with things like system restore which can be disabled - just make an image of your install with a program like ghost/acronis in case anything goes wrong.

The CPU (and the rest, actually) suggested by 2010rig look good. You will also want a high quality PSU - I'm no expert here, but something like a Seasonic S12II 620W or an Antec TruePower New 650W should keep you nice and safe.

Thanks, before putting my rig together, I spent about a month of research and getting help from several sources.

If you want a Modular PSU for better cable management, go for this one:

Case I would go with an NZXT Phantom:

Other choices are CM 690 II Advanced, Antec 900

You are now on a better direction for a video editing rig.

Wait a few more days, you can get one at Fry's, NewEgg, etc.

Also, go ahead and read up on Sandy Bridge at my thread here:
http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...e-reviews.html

It has all the info you need.
