Help noob with folding

Thread Starter
Ok, so I've been reading about this awesome thing folding...I've been a nerd and heard about it but I realized I have some powerful machines that sit around and do nothing. I have an i7 950 at 4.2GHz with 2X 5870 (i know they aren't the best for folding but they're just sitting there) and my other rig is an i7 920 at 3.8GHz with SLI GTX 260 (a lot better for folding). I REALLY want to get all my cores and GPU's folding but I see SO many tutorials and they all seem to say different things. I don't know things like do you keep SLI and Crossfire enabled or do you have to disable it? What clients to use? What is an SMP? If I use the basic CPU client will it use all 4 cores? How do I know what monitor to use Fahmon or that HMP or something? I think I have my sig rig going but Fahmon says I'm only getting 428 ppd out of my CPU and from what i've read I should get LOTS more. also, it's not even telling me what my GPU's are getting. On my other machine...I can't even get the 260's going...it keeps giving me error messages. GUYS I REALLY WANNA FOLD AND HELP THIS CAUSE OUT BUT IT'S SOOO FRUSTRATING. I've been searching threads forever trying to find answers but i don't always understand. What have I done wrong? Who can I talk to or what can I watch to make it work? Please help, i feel like it shouldn't be this hard!...sincerely, newb folder.

Did you follow these? CPU Guide & GPU guide
That should get you going, and honestly I would go with HFM (guide) for tracking since it shows much more detail.

If I take long to reply it is cause I am at work.

just follow zodac's guide step by step

i was completely clueless about folding last week, but the guide is really straight forward and i set it up first try without any major issues and now im folding away

http://www.overclock.net/folding-hom...mp-client.html

and here's the guide for GPU2 for your GTX260's, i believe GPU3 is only for GTX 4xx/5xx, not sure about folding on ATI cards but im sure there's a guide on that too

Thanks, I've seen this one before, thought I did it correctly but we'll see. I'll try again and post any issues I might run into...really appreciate it guys.

When you are all done just post a screenshot of HFM with your clients, and we can tell you if it is running perfect.

This is your quick and easy way to get started. Eventually, you may want to switch things over to the "normal" way of doing it though

guys i'm still not seeing anything under the multi-gpu tutorials as to having crossfire or sli enabled or disabled. any words of wisdom?
Disabled, it usually causes problems you do not need, and each GPU will need a client of its own.
