i have 2 engtx 460 oc'd to 910 1820 2100 (1.087 V) with a 1600 heaven benchmark. my q9550 is oc'd to 3.9 at 1.228 (stable 10 hours prime) i am looking for a single slot card that will keep up and aid in rendering can anyone suggest something?

i am looking at 9800 gts and maybe even a 295 but i really want a single slot card.

With SLI 460s, a Physx card isn't going to give you much of a performance boost at all. If you really want a dedicated Physx (waste of money) card, it'd have to be pretty high end to compete with a 460's GPU (high end as in, not in the 9000 series).

Just go get a 3rd 460 and have it in tri-SLI.

And your sig says you have a 260 as Physx...

i gave the 260 to my father for his multi monitor trading platform. so i am outa that card jsut haven't changed it yet.

460's can't tri sli so scrap that.
does a physx card have to be in line with the memory specs of the sli cards or can it be a say 1.8gb gtx 260 when the sli cards are 786

Well youll need a 260 to not hurt your fps, but it seems you already have a 260.

yea sure check the above post, i removed the 260 216 sc and gave it to my father so can could run a multi monitor setup. jsut because i didn't chagne my rig status doesn't mean lies. and we were having a discussion if i wanted some bs i would have asked for some smart ass to chime in. but i didn't. i was clearly asking what level of card i would need to not hurt my fps. i don't want to have to spend 80 on a used 260 as i have had one and want something more. i am just not familiar with all the architure with the gts and gt's. i am mainly looking for a single slot card anyways

Take a look at these graphs of the link. It shows that a 9800GTX is not too low a Physx card to pair with GTX295 and a 9600GT can also help out a GTX285. So, I can imagine unless you use the lowest of the 8xxx series, otherwise a dedicated Physx card can help you out.

As to how high a card it should be, it depends on your budget.
Of course, the top-of-the-line single slot card is the newly released Galaxy GTX460. (US$250)

Right below it is the GTS450: MSI for US$135 or Sparkle for US$140

And, a GTX295 is not a good option because Physx does not use SLI and so only 1 of the 2 cores of a 295 will be put to use in Physx. So, it will work more like a GTX260. Not much economic sense.

tri sli 460??? 460 only do 2 way.

to OP. do you really need physx card? for me I decided to dedicate 2nd 460 to physx whenever I run physx heavy games like mafia 2, which seem to give better fps if you have physx cranked up, plus there aren't that many games utilizing physx.
