Should i upgrade the CPU or GPU :)?

Thread Starter
Hey!

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2 GHz) CPU and a/an (what's right, cuz NVidia is pronounced liked ENVidia right ?) NVidia Geforce 9500 GT. Im beginning to consider if I should upgrade any of them, which one should it be ?

Both , but if you can only choose one upgrade your video card as long as your board does PCI-E 2.0

It's "an Nvidia card".

I remember the 4200+... it was in my first prefab computer back in '04... I hated it.

What do you do? If you game, grab a faster GPU. If you spend more time outside of games, grab a faster CPU.

Unless I am mistaken, your motherboard doesn't support PCI-E 2.0 so I would lean towards a processor, but it depends on what you want to do. If you want to game you might have to get a new MB, CPU and GPU to keep up with today's games. Just my two cents

Yeah, I think a complete overhaul is needed at this rate.

All the new cards support pci-E 16x 1.0 which is still pci-E 8x 2.0, which is plenty bandwidth.

I'd grab an Ati 5770 for yourself OP.

Thanks for clarifying my post, I wasn't sure but I thought there would be a way around that.

You need 3 different upgrade for your sig rig and I put them in order.
1) Mobo.
2) CPU.
3) Video card.
