will a headphone amp benefit me?

Thread Starter
I was thinking of getting a little dot mk III. I'm using a pair of hd595 with an Asus d2x. Will I notice a difference?

I'd think it's hovering around where you could or couldn't just based on the Ohms (50).
I was advised the same regarding my Shure SRH840s / Audiotechnica ATH-M50s (both in similar range for resistance).

As for how much of a difference it would make with your particular set I haven't the foggiest since I'm pretty much in the same boat here

No point in getting a tube amp for something like that. I've tried the Xonar D1 + Little Dot MKII with GE 5654W driver tubes and stock power tubes + HD595. It resulted in pretty much the same sound as Xonar D1 + HD595 alone.

HD595 is supposedly not too hard to drive. If you have a decent sound card, leave it alone.

50Ohm's an ipod could drive with ease.

I wouldn't recommend an amp for those headphones. In fact, I would go as far as to say that would be a waste of money. I have a pair of those and they are very easy to drive. Definitely not a tube amp as I don't feel that would compliment it's sound signature very well.

No straight answers here yet??? I say hell yes go for it! That is a very nice amp and will add extra smoothnes and detail to your sound. Try not to get addicted to tube rolling though! I think with that amp I would consider your setup very solid and enjoyable for years to come. Is that worth the investment?

Also consider that you don't really even need to upgrade gear if you want to move up Sennheiser's line. If you decide to go 600/650 (which I would definitely look into! They are amazing sounding phones and I have heard them on the MKIII- really lush and warm sound. The kind you could listen to for days.) then you're set.
