My first build

Thread Starter
Hi,

Does all of my component fit together? Is there any upgrades/alternates that would improve the system?

CPU: i7 - 2600k

MoBo: Gigabyte P67 UD4 (Asus MoBo perhaps?)

RAM: Gi Skill Ripjaw 2x2GB

GPU: EVGA GTX 570

HDD: WD Caviar Black 640GB

Optical Drive: Asus Optical Drive

PSU: Antec TruePower 750W or Corsair TX 750W - Will 750W be enough for a future SLI GTX 570?

Case: NZXT Lexa S

Cooling: Megahalem Rev. B

Fans: Yate Loon D12SL-12 x3 (two for CPU cooler + 1 for Case)

I will be adding an SSD in the future (Crucial C400/SF-2000/Intel 3rd Gen) whenever they arrive.

This is my first build and I am looking for feed back. What do you guys think?

PS: I will also be price matching with the lowest price possible in Canada if some of the prices seems really high.

i like your list, looks like a great build

one small thing about your ram, since youre going with the 'k' version of that CPU and a nice CPU cooler, i assume you will be overclocking. you might want to get RAM with some better timings. the cas9 and 9-9-9-24 timings arent great. if the timings are already that loose, they may not be good sticks to try to OC with.

as far as the PSU goes, i would take the Antec TPN over the TX750... will 750w be enough for SLI GTX570, yes, i think a really goood 750w unit will handle 2 570s and the 2600k. if you have any room left in your budget, i would definately bump up your PSU to an 850w if you can, but the 750w should be ok

Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to look further into the RAM issue, haven't seen any that I like yet on NCIX that has both good timings and a good price.

This is the product that I am looking atm, it has better timings but the same capacity.

You could also use the patriot memory

Would the 1333 Mhz freq be sufficient for OC'ing?

Follow up question, will the UD4 be able to handle SATA 6G and SLI (at 8x/8x) at the same time? If not, what features is required to do so?
The new sandy bridge CPUs come equipped with a kill switch, just wait until April for the AMD 8-core Bulldozers to be released.
Why would you be such a jerk to the guy? If by any chance he says he isn't all knowing about the new chip that just released and he is asking for advice. If you feel the need to spill poison into Intel's processor department, do it in any of the many and currently uselless xxx days till Bulldozer/IB/w/e who is upgrading? Bad 06tb06 bad!

To return the thread back on track. As far as I know mate, you should be ok with 2x8 PCIE lanes, and Sata 6gb simply because they have extra lanes to cater to that (don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that is the case)

Also, in regards to OC. What is your target? Many a friends of mine bought R3's and 950's with the concept of overclocking, only to have it sit at stock now, with them complaining about BIOS updates etc etc etc.

Realistically to you, what would you be looking at as an acceptable OC?
