Freaking out about shutdown stalling

So... for the longest time I thought my hdd was failing thus I swapped it with a new F3.

The problem that I kept having was that windows was stalling when shutting down. Now with this F3 I am having the same issue...

Can anyone help lead me to why this is happening?

I know all my parts are fully working because I have tested them on other computers and hdd. Why is it that "my" computer is the only one that stalls on shut down?

Does anyone else have this problem?

what do you mean by stalling? do you mean that you go to shutdown and it just freezes and never shuts down or it just takes a long time for it to shutdown?

The one time I encountered something similar to what your are experience(if its shutdown never going through or taking forever) was a soundcard driver/application not closing out when the system would start shutting down, in most cases for me it would hang the process for several minutes then finally shut down. Less often though it would prevent shutdown until I hard rebooted.

In my experience, stalled shut downs often result in a program that wont end properly. Is this what you are saying or is the HD just spinning in the breeze?

it doesn't even hit the shutdown screen

all processes stop so i can't even check what is causing the stall

i can open my computer but all other application cease to work including taskbar

Left field idea...

I know you said "I know all my parts are fully working because I have tested them on other computers and hdd".

Did you check your video card on another PC? 8800 GT's are getting on in age and if your HD is okay, that may be a factor.

yes. i actually did a complete switch with my dad where i took his i3 rig and gave him my i7 rig.

the only thing that we didn't trade was hdd. thus gave me the idea that my hdd was the problem.
