looking for a laptop

Thread Starter
My parents need a laptop for their business. They want it to be bigger than 15". Also I don't think they are going to be doing anything intensive. basically store a bunch of files about specific customers and then open those files when that particular customer comes in. Lots of web browsing and usual stuff like that. Any recommendations? I don't think it would be too expensive for such a light task so I don't really have a budget.

Do they travel?

If you go any where with the laptop, 15" is about the limit, and even then, the more you travel, the smaller the laptop you want, down to 12.1" screen models.

This is for a business so it needs to be reliable, which puts you into the Lenovo Thinkpad line or Dell Latitude. So depending upon what screen size they want it is the Lenovo T410 (14") or T510 (15") then on the Dell side the E6410 (14") or E6510 (15"). You said specs don't matter too much, so just pick maybe a +200GB hard drive, and 3 years of warranty and that's about it.

Oh and since they use a laptop it would be a very good idea to get an external hard drive or NAS appliance for the business and arrange frequent backups.

That is neither portable, nor a business laptop, nor quality. I have used that model before and there is a reason it is so cheap; you'll only get a year or two out of it before it melts down or just dies.
