Upgrade advice

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I'm looking for some good advice here. My current rig is/will be as follows in the next week or two:

i7-970
Asus Rampage III Extreme
12GB Corsair Dominator GT's
GTX580
Corsair AX1200
Corsair 800D

Currently I'm using an 80GB Intel X25-M G2 as my OS drive and two 640GB Caviar Black's in RAID0 as my storage. My predicament is that I'm currently building a H55 system which I will use as an HTPC which will leave my main rig just for gaming (CoD, L4D2, BFBC2, Diablo III if it ever releases, Crysis, etc), 3D design and some light photoshop/cs5 fooling around.

I really would like to take the Caviar's and put them in the HTPC along with two more than I picked up from a friend, my question is what is my best option for storage on my main rig, I really want to go all SSD on this one. My original plan was to get two or three more 80GB G2's and run RAID0 but after reading a few threads over the past couple of days I'm not sure if that is a good idea. I work at Best Buy and can get the G2's for a fair price but I can also get some good deals on Corsair products so what is my best option? Grab a couple more G2's and RAID0 for crazy speed utilizing my current SSD, get X number of Corsair SSD's and RAID them or get a large Corsair SSD? All help is greatly appreciated and I apologize for the wall of text.

Why exactly do you want SSDs for storage ?

That aside, I wouldn't advise RAID for SSDs, 1 large SSD should do the trick, since it's storage anyway.

I don't like messing around with different drives, I like the convenience of just installing something and not having to worry about which drive I put it on.

Why isn't RAID advised for SSD's? If its just for the lack of TRIM I don't really care about that as they have a three year warranty (the Intel's) and I can just RMA them if needed.

Your answer in this review. Also why put your storage in RAID0? If storing anything, I'd put it 1,5,1+0 for safety reasons to get all your data secure. If that's where your games are also located, don't RAID them or just stick to the levels for mentioned.

Thanks for the link but in the review they used the slower, cheaper Kingston SSD. I won't be saving anything important on here just games and such, also I backup data weekly.

Clarification: My goal is to ultimately have one disk (either RAID0 array of SSD's or single large SSD) as my entire PC storage space (OS/Apps/Games/Data, EVERYTHING). As of right now I'm leaning towards picking up three more 80GB G2's for a total of 320GB of RAID0 SSD goodness.

That's a horrible article that used terrifically slow drives to prove a pointless point.

OP, if you can get the drives cheap, I don't see a reason not to go for it. 320GBs of SSD loving, I'm envious!
