quick question on mem freq

Hi i'm not sure if it's a memory stick that is defective or just something i didn't do but here goes.

I have (Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G1600C9 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24)

and CPU-Z says my DRAM Frequency is 535.6MHz now i've read that this number has to be doubled which doesn't bring me close to 1600. I should be at 800MHz.

Can anyone help me figure this thing out?

here is what I have in case it might help.

XFX Radeon HD 4890 XT

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W

ASUS P6T Deluxe V2

Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G1600C9 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA2 3.5IN 8.5MS 7200RPM 16MB (x3)

Intel Core i7 920 LGA1366 2.66GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 4.8GT/S

Nothing is overclocked and nothing has been played around with in the bios.

Thanks in advance for your time

Have you checked your bios yet? You're right in the assumption that all you do is multiply the dram fequency by two and it shows your actual mem speed.

At its current reading (CPU-Z) it's only running at 1066 Mhz.

Try and set you timings to 9-9-9-24, sometimes you have to set things manually to have mems run at their advertised speeds.

Alright so i checked it out, it was set to (Auto) so i made it manual and selected 1600MHz and after a reboot i get 803.3 so everything seems to be fixed thanks

I have another question somewhat related to this. I want to add 3x2gbs more and i found some (G.SKILL F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM Ripjaws 6GB 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL8-8-8-24)

Would that work fine or should i get some that has the same cl as my other ram?

First off it's never advisable to use up all your dimm slots since this would limit your OC with your board. If you really want to have more mems, you can get 4gbx3 sticks and sell your 2gbx3 sticks.

Second, you want to make sure that all mem sticks that you use have the same timings since you can only set it up the same for all sticks.

Is it the case even if i don't plan on doing any oc'ing at all? Nothing is oc'ed right now and I don't plan on doing it.

What are you doing with your PC?

6GB is plenty of ram for everyday gaming/surfing.
