If I went with the GTX 470s, I just wonder how much I would gain VS the GTX 465's ... I mean, I would be losing basically $240 on the GTX465 I currently own And I would have to put out 270 a piece for good 470's..

Corsair AX 850W No problem for your system even with the 2 465s. I agree they weren't the best card made as they didn't have the performance of a 470 but had all the power and heat issues. You've got one, choices are to get another, or sell your existing one and get 1 or 2 others.

If I was getting one card I would get GTX570 or HD6950.

If I was getting 2 cards I would get GTX 460's or 6850's or 6870's. Either of those combinations would perform better than any other single card.

EVGA 1GB 460s work very well.

If you care about power consumption and heat, I would trade or sell those 465s for 1GB-460s.

Yes it is enough I believe.
If you can afford a 980x why not go for 1200 watt.. its got a massive 100 amp 12v rail while 850 has 70 I believe

Are the GTX 470's not prone to the heat issues that the GTX 465's are? They look like the same card to me so how is the heat so different?

The AX850 can handle any two graphics cards in crossfire/sli(maybe except 2 480), even overclocked.

The heat isn't much different, but 465's perform close to 460's with the heat so if you're going to take the heat might as well go for 470's. There are a bunch of other cards you can choose from too though. I would just avoid the 465's.
