SLI GTX 465's or...? I need help guys...

Thread Starter
I figured I would post this in this section since it is an Invidia card I am dealing with ..

Please help .

Okay here is the deal guys...

What I am working with is a 980x build in which I would like to overclock it to around ~4GHz. I have a Corsair 850AX power supply on order so I need something that will work with this power supply and overclocking of the processor.

I am using the computer for very intensive video encoding/gaming (mainly Crysis and other games that are GPU/CPU intensive).

I already have one EVGA Superclocked GTX 465. I have another on order for SLI, but I was told that the power supply might not work well with that since they are heat intensive cards.

What would be my best bet as far as money? Keep in mind I have one GTX 465 already that I would really like to use and not just use as a paper weight.

Please let me know what you think as far as a graphic card/graphic cards that I should go with.

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't have any concerns running the 980X OCed and SLI 465s on the Corsair AX 850.

Are the GTX 460's THAT much better than what I have though? I just ordered another GTX 465 to do the SLI and didn't realize they are so much heat and horrible... I don't want to waste my money so I need to know what I should do :/

SLI 465s can produce some heat, but they are still good cards. The only area where 460s would be substantially better is in temps, but with decent air flow in your case you should be fine.

You will have no problems. In fact, you could even get 2 more powerful cards. And I don't think the temperatures produced by the cards have any relevance to the psu.

Just run the 465's in sli. They are not horrible cards, they do put out more heat than a 460 but it doesn't really matter in my opinion. Id take 465's in SLI right now over 460's if i could.

Wow, thanks guys! I'll just run the GTX465's in SLI and call it a day then That relieves some stress since other people were saying that I do not want to run these cards.

*I added Reps to all of you guys for the help!*

Have you looked at the GPU ID to see if they are reference 470 boards? I bought three PNY GTX 465s and have unlocked them to GTX 470s

How do I do this? The one I have is an EVGA Superclocked one. I have another one that is the same on order.
