You did read my post correctly, right? He had the components on the back of the PCB, but did not have the mem chips on the other side.
Seriously

I'm going to explain my logic here once more, under the assumption that I've just not been communicating effectively upthread

Your friend Frank is sitting there with a 465 card in hand, doesn't know if it's maybe a 470. You don't want Frank to have to waste his time, so you tell him ... "Look for X components on the back of your card ... and if you DON'T have these components, then you DON'T have a 470. Therefore, don't waste your time flashing the card, nor taking it apart "

This is the point I'm trying to make here ... that it makes more sense to do the simplest thing first, which is to RULE OUT the card being a 470 by observing the LACK OF these readily-visible memory components ... rather than going straight to taking apart the card.

My point is there have been people who have the parts on the back of the card, but the memory is still not there. Why is that so hard to understand?

This is so mind-bogglingly simple of a concept ... how could I NOT understand what you are saying?

I get it, trust me

It's just that this point is irrelevant, because I'm not asserting that the presence of these components has any definitive meaning whatsoever ... rather, I'm asserting that their absence, which can be determined very easily, does have definitive meaning.

Look, the point I was making when I jumped into this thread is that extra work was made for the OP because he was told straight away that he needed to take apart his card to see if he has a 470, when in reality it seems more logical (to me at least) to FIRST attempt to determine that one DOES NOT have a 470 by observing whether the card LACKS these readily-visible memory components on the back.

If one can determine through one very simple step that they don't have a 470, then there is no logical reason to proceed through the more complicated and time-consuming steps required to confirm that one does have a 470, because that question is already answered.
