Ubuntu + SSD Help

Thread Starter
Well, to start off I was installing Ubuntu on an empty C300 and it failed so I tried the install again and it finished. Then I turned on automatic TRIM, and went to do updates and half way through everything crashed Firefox and slowly the border on the desktop. I clicked the power button and nothing happened. So i forced a restart and tried to finish the update hoping it was a one time thing but no luck. Tried entering recovery mode and it would not even make it half way through the commands, it just froze.

I am completely lost on fixing this.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Edit: Made some progress, see last post.

Too be honest I have never done a linux install on an SSD so the answer is no, I don't know how to either. Or i might not know what you mean.

Windows Vista and 7 align the partitions properly upon install, but linux dosnt do that automatically im not sayin that misaligned partitions are the problem maybe its something else, but here is a good guide i followed when i installed Fedora 13 on my Vertex2
Link

At first it seemed like something only linux gurus can handle with all those numbers and stuff but it isnt. After the first time i did this, i can do it blind folded now its that simple once you understand it.

EDIT: from what i know misaligned partitions have a huge impact on performance.

So I read the article and I read the link within the article. I saw that there was a partionless method but it said the bootloader should be on another Disk. Meaning my SSD is used as a whole and the bootloader goes on another disk.

Is there a way around the bootloader being on a separate disk? I doubt it but I figured it was worth asking. I am going to get to work calculating my sectors and partition sizes.

Should I make 4 partitions or 3? Bootloader, SWAP , root???

You can do even 15 partitions depends on what you want
Mine were 3: /, Swap, /home in that order the home partition was last cuz it was the rest of the drive

IIRC / = 20gb, Swap = 6144mb not sure how much i made it but thats me you can partition yours differently

EDIT: Also forgot to ask what version of Ubuntu was?

Alrighty, Thanks.

The only reason I am even doing this is because I can't use windows 7x64 due to a bug that makes it so my USB devices intermittently disconnect and connect every so often and its hard to get anything done. MS released a hotfix but it did not work. And it's any device, even thumb drives. But linux works amazingly.

Update: I can't even get it to install. I tried grabbing a clean ISO from the ubuntu site and burned it but when installing it failed, so I tried another disc of different brand along with cleaning my lens on my reader. Still it failed. Tried making it into a USB installer and when loading the ubuntu screen it said something to the effect of fsyncing device .... imput...output. And gave me the option of retry or ignore. I tried both many times. Finally I got to the installer and it told me the after partly installing that the device was "Read only" which did not make any sense to me.

I am completely lost. I have never had any trouble with any linux distro before.

Well I finally got Ubuntu installed and I clicked restart to finish the install and then it just sat at the console after POST and the cursor just blinked. I ran the live CD and went to my SSD and I can see the install and everything looks correct to me.

Any ideas?
