Can I Crossfire and eyefinity with this?

Hey guys, first time poster here.
I have a 5850 and I want to run Eyefinity with it. Ive read that passive adapters work up to 1080p so I'm going to try that when the adapter arrives from the shop. My important question is, with my current 5850, could I crossfire it with a 6850/70 and use the 6850/70 as my main card (I.E the ones my monitors connect to) in the future? As I think it would be better than simply selling my 5850 when I upgrade to a new card.

You can't crosfire cards from different generation...so the answer is no.
Your best option is to sell the 5850 and get the 6870 however you won't see much of an upgrade coz both are close to each other...

Hope it helped!

Nope you must crossfire cards from the same series. You could crossfire with a 5830/50/70 or 5970.

That's not entirely true. You can crossfire across generations, assuming they're the same type of card.

For example, 3870 + 4870 CF would work.

However, in this case, AMD changed up the naming system, so the 6870 is actually a "6770" in disguise. I do wonder if it would work CF with a 5770 though.

you can only crossfire a 5850 with either another 5850 or a 5870.

since you already own a 5850, i wouldn't recommend selling it for the newer 6xxx cards. just buy another 5850, they're cheap now ($170AR)

I've never heard anything like this before, confirmation anyone?

This doesn't support that assertion.
