wow don't have either of those cars here and even if we did don't they run on two different markets like sports cars and ecnomic cars? Is that like comparing a Nokia to Apple?

I used to have a cheap cell phone and a handel held pc, then I got windows smart phone. I hated the windows phone and now I got an android phone. I think android is good for smart phones. Windows looks stupid and Apple has a stupid deal with the worst service provider in the US.

That's my point. Saying "apple should be scared" because Android captured 10% of the market is irrelevant. Mobile phones have multiple markets, luxury, economy, business etc... so if Android took 10% of the market and 9% of it was in economy/cheap phones... then the point is moot.

You cannot just look at mobiles as one big market (well, you could, but it just gives you a distorted view).

Debatable. Your example of Maserati vs. Daewoo is completely different to the iOS vs Android scenario. Both iOS and Android ARE in the same market... being the smartphone market. iPhone is no more a "luxury phone" than the EVO/Nexus 1/Nexus S are.

Maserati makes extremely high end cars, costing over $200,000. Daewoo makes ridiculously small, economic cars, costing ~$10,000. One produces high end luxury/sports cars, the other produces tiny economic cars that are 1/10th or even less of the price. Both produce cars, they're just totally different types of cars. (Sports and economic)

iOS vs. Android on the other hand, aren't quite luxury vs. economic phones like you mention. They're both pretty much the same price and both iOS and Android phones are high performing phones. For the most part all Android phones are now 1GHz or close to it, just like the iPhone is. Both are phones (like Maserati and Daewoos are both cars) but both are also smartphones, which most consider to be luxury phones. (Where Maserati are luxury sports cars vs. Daewoo being economic cars) Hope you get what I mean there...

Both are smartphones competing in the same smartphone market, i'm not sure what you're getting at. You'd be correct if we were talking about say the LG EnV 3 vs the Iphone, they both have their own markets. But the android OS is on nothing but smartphones, like the iOS. Same market.

This. I refuse to pay $400+ per year to have internet on my phone as well. Or even $55-60 per year to have text on my phone.

What I was getting at is that many of Android phones are low end, meant for simple tasks. Apple's main competitors come in the form of the Galaxy S, Desire HD etc...

Still using my iPhone 3G, and there is a huge crack on the back by the audio jack... What is keep it together is the hard plastic case I have on it.

No need for rolleyes here. Both can be done with a 5 year old phone.

Anyway, most of us don't need those features. Just like mobile broadband.
Many don't even want a music player, video player, bluetooth and other basic features in their phones. Just a very basic 20€ phone.

I paid near 300€ (i find that to be a lot from a phone) from my Nokia 6720 classic in Q4 2009 and i guess it will last with me for a year or two more with a new battery.

Our disposal culture is somewhere very high up there.
