1) Cell compatible Linux already exists....
2) Load games from HDD.
3) Should be extremely easy. There's no security workaround needed because the signed package will be accepted as authentic.
Once again...

I think even with the PS3 being hacked and now pirateers can now play pirated games, there won't be as much pirate as PC/XBOX/Wii because some of the sheer size of the game in a bluray disk. some data can contain as much as 50GB of information. I don't know if anyone have time to download 50GB of data using a 3MB/1MB speed (average?) i'd rather buy the game then wait 1 weeks for a downloaded pirated game

Yeah with games being VERY big in size i dont see many pirates popping up and uploading all these games, let alone people willing to download them when it would be cheaper just to buy the game.

All i want is to be able to play my PS2 games on my PS3 like i used to!

You could rent the game from online services and copy it, or trade with friends via HDD.

Like back in the days when your 2400 baud modem wasn't downloading a dang thing. Don't copy that floppy.

Very big? I don't think the size of the media will play a part in pirating. Even if it is 50GB. Which it is not, correct?

why online service? sure you could do it from places like Blockbuster or other stores that rent games out, that is a real option but then would need a BluRay Re-writer but the cost of that would out weigh the cost of a few games though so a very good option if they want to pirate

Usenet will become more popular if games like this to get released on the web IF they do rip it.

But with this key being released... can't wait for the reaction of Sony being like OMGZ

There are many different forces at play, as always, and you fail to recognize that it was almost certainly a combination of all! No one group gathered and developed all of the information about the console, it was many groups each spurred by a different motivating factor (Other OS, or simply trying to gain root control, whichever it may be)

Let us all rejoice in the fact that it is opened now, and perhaps enjoy laughter at the expense of Sony for shipping all of the consoles with what is similarly the 'same key', just as Honda once shipped most of its original cars with one of four or so keys.

These things happen and are funny, how they are found no doubt require lots of hard work, and figuring out which algorithm is used to encrypt information is not an easy task, I personally am slightly hurt by your disdain for 'hackers' who are opening up a device and not cracking software, creating rootkits or anything in between. These are very smart, driven people, with lots of knowledge and the ability to cause far more strife than you can imagine.

Please take a seat, grab a cup of tea and realize that we are all friends here, and if not, we should attempt to appear so-- yes we shall have conflict, but not tasteless shouting matches.

-Cory.
LOLWUT?

How was my post in anyway violent or appeared as if I was angry? It was completely calm. I also never claimed these hackers were apart of one group of people working on it together, as you suggest I thought. I was actually saying the exact opposite, if you would just take the time to actually read my post. I'm not saying cracking a console's security is a walk in the park, the people who manage to do it are real champs and all... The problem I am seeing is, everyone here automatically assumes that the PS3 didn't get any real attention from so called "real hackers" until the OtherOS was removed, which is what I am calling BS on.

Usenet? why them in particular i have heard of them but dont really know much about them. what about torrents? also got to be LOADS of sites that upload games, movies, music and such to places like Megaupload and such so they could be used as well but imagine the amount of links that would need to be downloaded even if the game is only 25gb that would be 25 x 1gb files

I wonder if Sony could make some update that checks to make sure the disc is in the tray - similar to how PC games work now even though they can be changed. That would at least stop games being placed on the Hard drive, then would next need to fix a way to stop pirated games being played

There's a good point... while the Other-OS feature was there, people weren't too bothered in going for this, Sony's removal of that feature upset a LOT of hackers who like to play with the internals of their PS3s, I'd say that Sony brought this on themselves.
