How much of an upgrade would it be from a 930 to 970. Is it worth the price difference in real world applications?

Im sry that should be 970.

If you use heavily multithreaded apps then yes. Plus new apps that come out that can utilize the 6 cores you will be happy. If you can get the i7 970 for Intel Retail edge price of 215$ plus shipping and tax then i would get it and sell your i7 930

depends on what applications. If you're just gaming wait for Ivy bridge, 2nd gen bulldozer, or even longer.
If you work with multithreaded programs, then the i7 2600k is incredible. And they overclock like monsters. Make sure to get a K version though.

^ This. If you can get it for a decent price then it's definitely worth it, but for 879.99, as it is on most sites, I'd pass.

I just got a 970 yesterday and it's an amazing chip. Clocks nice with low volts and runs cool on air!
