Windows 7 Home 64Bit

Thread Starter
I was planning on using Windows 7 Home 64Bit for my new rig due to a few members of this forum telling me some pretty good things about it but i still was not sure so i decided to do some googling.

After about an hour i found out that a lot of people had problems with Windows 7 and playing games as a lot of them were not compatible. Now my rig is a budget gaming PC so i will be looking to play many games.

Is the percentage of games that are not compatible with windows 7 high or is it just a few of the older games?

Thanks ~Ben

Well, I haven't had any problems with my W7 x64 whatsoever i terms of games, no compatibility issues, and if some game occurs with some, I run compatibility mode and it sorts out.

What games?

Any game in the last 2 years better be compatible with Windows 7 or it won't be selling many copies.

I have the original Halo still installed on my rig and it works just fine. Not sure what games they would be talking about. Just go with 64 bit. You won't be sorry.

Starcraft is the only game I play that isn't compatible. The colours mess up and the whole computer locks up randomly. To fix this you have to turn off windows explorer as soon as you start starcraft (I use a batch file to do this). IIRC, it has somethign to do with direct draw and affects other games that use the same technology

64 bit FTW. Never had any problem with a game that I could say: "Oh crap my 64 bit OS made me crash".

Win7 has a compatibility feature to work with older programs and games.

I work for a company that sells a couple of educational games. They're somewhat old and we do get a lot of complaints about the games not being compatible with Win7. But then we do a walk through with them for the compatibility wizard and then we get a "Oh... I did not know I could do that" on the other end of the line.

No reason at all not to go 64bit now. With big video card memories taking up such a huge part of the 32bit address space, you have no reason to stick with 32bit unless your system is very, very poorly specced.

my 64-bit runs every game, halo 2, LP2, AVP, everything and if I do have problems, compatibility mode to the rescue helps a lot
also heard that the Vram in GPU's takes up some of 32-bits limited Memory space
