[Project One Goal] Chicago Blackhawks Mod

Thread Starter
I've actually started working on this a couple months ago, but finally have some relevant progress made to start a work log.

I'm working on making a Chicago Blackhawks case mod, inspired by the 2010 Stanley Cup run. I haven't finalized all details yet, but I am currently working on a backlit cutout in the case panel. I plan on putting LEDs behind the cutout for some cool lighting effects. As we all know, this thread is worthless without pics, so here we go:

I used "Saral White Transfer Paper" - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/SARAL-White-TRANSFER-PAPER-Tracing-Sketch-Drawing-Craft/dp/B002HW1PJO"]Amazon Link[/ame] - to trace my template onto the case panel...

...and then let the Dremel rip that metal up. I prefer to use standard, as cheap as possible cutoff wheels. They're thinner than the heavy duty ones and make a finer cut. Also, when they get smaller, they can be used to make more intricate cuts.

Yes, I wore safety glasses. Metal and cutoff wheel in the eye sucks. I can't believe I used to cut without them and how many times I've tempted fate. What a moron I used to be (and probably still am!) tongue.gif

Gettin' there.

I'm holding it up to my ceiling light here to simulate a backlit effect.

I went through about 50-60 cutoff wheels on this. I stopped keeping exact count after awhile. They tend to break off randomly sometimes.

Angled shot to show the cuts and whatnot. Still needs a lot of TLC - sanding and filing. Gotta be careful around the headdress feathers, not much metal holding them in place anymore smile.gif

Just messin' - holding up to window.

That's all for now. Like I said, I still need to do a ton of filing and smoothing out, then priming and painting. I'm planning on going with flat black for a majority of the case. I'm also planning on using some white translucent plexi behind the cutout, to blend the LED light together.

I usually work on a couple different projects at a time, so each one takes a considerable amount of time to complete. I hope I can come back soon with some more progress/pics.
thx for looking.

Yeah that looks pretty sweet. It's a good idea and I'd copy that and make a F@H icon on mine.
