Losing X16 for X8 on a GTX580 for sound card. Your thoughts?

Benchmarking wise, one of the cards (not primary) will lose the X16 and run at X8 when I'm also adding a sound card.

Worth doing that?
Benchmarking wise. Gaming, won't matter a thing, I know, no need to say it.

As far as running the GTX 580 in an 8X, you probably won't notice the difference except maybe in benchmarking numbers. I have not seen any numbers yet though on that configuration except some guys here running Vantage with three GTX 580's in a E760 mobo and just smoking the Vantage score.

It will matter, but only by a couple of frames at most on a seriously heavy bit.

For benchmarking, it is best to go x16. When I had a single GTX 480 and running Vantage, I lost 150 points (GPU score) and in Heaven, I lost .6 FPS.

So although the differences are very tiny, this is benchmarking; you want every point you can get.

I personally would take out or disable the sound card when benchmarking.

Plan on the ‏Asus Xonar D1.

One of the issues with the UD9, is that it doesn't have the PCIE disable option like the R3E I have, so I will have to manually remove the card each time, which is too much of a bother, since I'm having the SLI bridge and water cooling tubes over it.

This. The D1 is a PCI card, like justin said. Are you sure you're not thinking the DX?

If it is the D1 just make sure your PCI slot is free. DX? I'd do it anyway.

Yeah sorry I meant the D2X, or the X-Fi Titanium.

I don't have a PCI slot on the UD9
