[Wired]BT Content Connect service faces 'two-tier net' claims

Telecoms giant BT has denied reports that it's paving the way for an internet "fast lane" with a new service named Content Connect, which allows broadband providers to prioritise video from certain clients, such as the iPlayer or YouTube, if the video sites pay a fee.

However, the response from web users hasn't been positive, with accusations claiming the company is abandoning network neutrality for profit. Net neutrality is a principle that states all content should be delivered equally to everyone.

This is only in the UK, correct?

I don't see something like this holding up in the States, at least for wired internet. Wireless is probably doomed.

True, but I figure ISPs will focus on the easier target first. Tiered internet will be a significant change to their business model, and large changes are generally met with expensive lawsuits from the opposition. They have to be careful not to anger their investors by taking on too many enemies at once.

hmm this aint a bad idea ... (WAIT!)

Had a look on the site and if they stick to what they are advertising this would be a great idea, if they dont it would be bad

As it stands and as i understand the idea is that they keep accsess to the normal high bandwidth sites they jus create multipul mirrors close to exchanges meaning that if 5 or 6 people want to say watch dr.who off iplayer rather than all 5 going to i play only 1 request to i player is made, the show is stored and then a faster connection between user + CC(contect connect) server reducing load over the wider internet

If its like this awsome , there can be no excuses then of them being unable to serve the internet we pay for

However if the teir the internet i think there would be way to many backlashes at the moment,

I dont think anyone here knows enough on conect conect yet to decide if its good or bad since its still in planning
