OC AMD 1090t Noob Question

Thread Starter
I have successfully overclocked my new AMD 1090t Black Edition to 4Ghz with a simple change in the multiplier and CPU voltage. AMD's "Turbo Core" is disabled, but I am wondering if I should turn it on to throttle down the CPU during light loads.

Current configuration is:
Motherboard: Asus M4A87TD/USB3
CPU: AMD 1090t @ 4Ghz
RAM: 4GB ddr3 1333

According to PC Wizard the CPU is running at 42°C, with the cores running individually at 28.5°C.

This is my first attempt at overclocking, and I still feel somewhat clueless despite reading as much as I could. Any help is appreciated!

When you overclock maunally, Cool n' Quiet, (AMD's CPU power saving feature) is automatically disabled.

Not on my board. My CPU is running 3.75 Ghz, and will idle down to 1Ghz when not in use. Voltage drops as well. I've had issues with my board (in my sig.) using Turbo Core, and giving wild voltage swings because of it. No, your chip will not idle better with Turbo Core, but will with Cool and Quiet. Try it and see if it works. I run it, and have since having that option on an A64.

OK, thanks for the help. To clarify, I will try the AMD 1090t overclocked (will try at 3.8 Ghz to keep things easy for a bit) via multiplier and CPU voltage with Turbo Core OFF and Cool 'n Quiet ON.

Keep your multi below 19, otherwise CnQ will not work.

My 1055T is overclocked to 4.27GHz with CnQ, C1 and virtual enabled.

In Cpu-z i can see it ramping down to around 1.2GHz 1.44V when there are light loads and goes straight back to 4.27GHz 1.53V when there's heavy load

I guess my main concern is keeping my temperatures low. I have a decent cooling setup, but I keep my tower inside of a desk cabinet, and this doesn't help with cooling (but it does with volume). I'm trying to find a happy medium between volume, speed and temperature.

The happy medium for you could be to have a remote water cooling system in another room, and some slow, quiet fans in the tower to keep air circulating over the small parts that create heat. Depending on how comfortable you are with adapting car radiators and such, it would work well, and relatively inexpensive.
