Check your power management in windows and in the BIOS to what the settings should be. Have you updated the BIOS? Did you ever load Optimized Defaults?

I have had my system hang before and funked the BIOS till I reset the CMOS and load opt defaults, save then go in and change my settings back as they were.

Next thing may be to do a repair install of windows to eliminate and corrupt files.

XP? Really... I thought people on here knew better than that. (yes, for the duration of this post, I am being 'that guy') How is it you have access to new xp keys? They aren't sold any more, unless you had some stashed?
Either way, Windows 7 for a start. You wouldn't expect anyone to try and help or have answers for someone running win 3.1 or Win 98 would you?

Also, you say this system is for a security camera setup... why would you want to turn it off? And why is it connected to the internet (other than for remote access to the cameras I suppose)?

It might be a problem with XP and that specific hardware combo, so the next logical step would be to try either win 7 or linux to see if the reboot problem still persists. After that, I'd start taking hardware out, down to the bare minimum.

Xp is what OS our software uses. And yes you can still buy XP!!!!!

I am thinking it is a compatibility issue. I am going to reload OS once again.... this time with the video card and DVR card pulled and see if it still does it

What a fun day at work in computer troubleshooting!

Just to follow up on this issue.....

Narrowed it down to the DVR Card Compatibility.

I pulled the video card and it got a little further in powering down. I would get right past the shutting down windows and it would crash.

Then I pulled the DVR card, and POOF the problem is now gone. I then took that DVR card and stuck it in another PC. Worked Like a Charm, So I know the card isn't bad.

Now to change motherboard to a motherboard I KNOW is compatible.

Thank You for all the help!
