evga gtx260 core 216 build help

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
Hey guys. Just getting a hand me down from a friend a evga gtx260 core216 and am wanting to upgrade a couple components. Right now i have a m2n-e-sli mobo, 4g ram, 500w ps, and a amd athlon 5400+.

My biggest question is what mobo/CPU should I get to handle this gfx card. I'm aware that my setup now will bottle neck it. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

How tight is your budget first of all?

To think of a budget build I would upgrade the CPU first, also what brand is your power supply?

This should be fine;

if you can spare some extra $ I'd go with;

The power supply is a thermaltake purepower 500. And if I'm not mistaken my m2n-e-sli is only am2 socket type. This is the reason I'm looking for a new mobo. Cuz I'm very limited on upgrading my CPU. I think the highest I can get is a 5600 athlon. Which will still bottleneck this gfx card. As far as a budget. I was planning on spending a couple hundred. But more or less won't be a issue.

Oh I'm sorry your right! I thought it was AM2+.

Yes you'll have too upgrade your Mobo and CPU.

Intel - Cost: $307
Mobo;

Cpu:

DDR3:

That's a pretty good setup that'll take you to the next level and last a long time. Quad core i5 and DDR3, with a good BCLK mobo will work wonders.

Yes... am2+ lol. Forgot if it was plus or not but yea. That seems like a reasonable setup. Still open to some ideas. If anyone else has any let me know.

Id say I'm favoring amd at the moment. But the Intel is tempting too.

If you go the intel route you likely can hold off upgrading for close to two years.. that's an estimate though. The AMD route should require an upgrade in about a year though.
