I heard that the max amount of cores / threads that a game can access is four so i see no point in getting a 6 core cpu

Doesn't hurt to answer, the build might have additional uses to gaming of course.

Upgrade the GPU and the monitor! What resolution is that 17" screen you're using? Also a soundcard would be nice. I have that mobo and the onboard is okay, but a discrete soundcard is definitely a step up.

That's misinformation.

There are already many games now that can access all 6 cores of an x6 cpu (http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,7...CPUs/Practice/), and given how quickly that technology is becoming mainstream, don't you think that future game developers will be further multithreading all their games?

Oh yeah, games can access as many threads as the developers write them to be able to ...

Plus, if a game uses 4 threads completely, and you have a quad-core, then Windows and the game must share all 4 possible threads - hence in this situation having 6 threads would allow 2 threads for windows in the background and 4 full threads for the game.

this 17" is running at 1280*1024 at 75hz and i know that isn't good but its good enough for me right now seeing as I am saving up to get 3 20" monitors for eyefinity and i also see no benefit in getting a sound card because the integrated sound card in my mobo is already good enough and i run a 2.1 speaker system so how would i benefit??

In better sound quality, but truly I have tested many sound cards and never saw any difference But sound it's not my specialization It must be loud and clear to wake up neighbors every day

probably 1 24" or 23" will be much better in terms of usability than 3 20". if you at least take some changes into consideration that others said.
