oc a QX9650 cpu with a P5N-D mobo - Page 3

I have this kit of ram and it works great. Since the cost of retail DDR2 ram has gone up so much I would try to find a nice used pair from the marketplace on the forums. If you insist on getting new ram pretty much any DDR2 800 speed with 4-4-4-12 or DDR2 1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings would be acceptable, in the size of your choice.

Thread Starter
I was thinking more like 8GB since right now I have 4GB.. looking at these or different ones what do you think?

8GB (2 x 4GB) or 8GB (4 x 2GB)

2x4GB will be better for overclocking.

Do you really need 8gb? unless you are running video editing, photo shop work, ect, the extra would just sit there idle. Not only that but 4 sticks of ram would lower the overclock-ability of the P5N-D by a bit.

This is a great thread, just what I was looking for, THANKS to all of you.

I have a very similar set up, however, my P5N-D is not showing multipliers above x9 (??), the BIOS version is 1401. Also, I am using a water cooling system.

I upgraded to the Q9650 to potentially overclock it at around 3.4-3.6, or more if possible.

Right now my question is why the heck am I not seeing multipliers above x9?? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

HI guys,

My setup:
P5N-D mobo
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 stock @ 3.0 GHz
8 GB of Patriot ram Viper II clock at 800Mhz
2 pairs one at 4x4x4x12 and another at 5x5x5x12
Zalman heatsink (forgot model #)
EVGA GTX 580 SC 1542MB
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Antec 1200 Full Tower Case

I was wanting to overclock my CPU by some how, was wondering if everything is in ok worries to try and go ahead and overclock it, I have messed around a little bit, but nothing came stable thus far. I can AI overclock but only about %10, was hoping if I can get a quick starter on where I can start off? What would be a good voltage to start off at, how much my RAM can handle? If I need to upgrade to better cooling? What multipliers I should not exceed? I had a previous setup of a P5N-E SLi with a Q6600 in their and I wasn't so successful with that either. Can I get some help please?
