DX9 has been in use for so long that if there's any improvements to be had we've already found them.
How old are you?

1 - Just because it's old doesn't mean that it's not useful...Vista was a flop.

2 - Is that why BC2 can run in DX9 mode?

vista was fine after SP1.

BC2 can run DX9 because they took the extra time to program for DX9.

Doesn't something have to have been produced using a lot of money and then fail really bad to be considered a flop?

I bet Microsoft still made TONS of money off vista.

7 replaced in without giving Vista much of a chance, imo.
Driver issues.
Wi-Fi adapter issues.
DX10 wasn't really worth it for the performance it.
7 actually gave similar XP performance, if not better compared to Vista.

I'm not trying to troll.
But only trying to make a simple point.
Sure Vista made MS money since it was forced on retail PC's and MS themselves phased out XP.

Vista was out long before 7 was. I had both. Vista had a chance and I enjoyed it, not at first but it grew into something better.

Did not have driver issues.

My wireless network cards ran fine (5 different models on everyones computers here)

DX10 is different from a programming respect from what I gather here, why use something that will only hold technology back, derp.

MS did not phase out XP. It's still supported actually.

Just because you did not have a good experience with Vista doesn't mean that everyone else didn't either.

Vista was released in 07.
7 in 09.

Vista was in full stride in terms of availability.

DX9 came out in 2002. Do you realize how much video cards have changed by 2006 when DX10 launched? DX10 was a roadmap to the future. If DX10 did not force unified shaders, our current video cards would not be as advanced with programmable pipelines.

DX10 did: No more cap bits, more instruction slots, more registers, bit operations, 64x texture samplers, multi-threading, GPGPU support, geometry shaders, unified shaders, etc....

Basically, DX10 could do everything that DX9 did faster and easier. That assume developers had experience and they did not have to support legacy code (DX9).... which early products did not. It takes years for developers to get good at such a complex API.

Like Vista, DX10 was a new design with growing pains. MS implemented a number of very useful features. DX9 was filled with legacy support. It just takes time for developers to gain experience.

Think about how XBox or PS games looked when they first came out... then think about how they look 2-3 years later.
How old is vista? Almost 5 years no? Realitively speaking that's an eternity if you see how fast technology is moving, with Microsoft already having Windows 8 being set for release in 2012.

All Direct x10 did was make things slower and didn't improve the visuals at all. Why do you think many reviewers only do comparison b/w direct x9 and 11? Even then, the difference between direct x9 and 11 are substle at best.Bad Company 2(Direct x11) is a joke, the difference was(and is) negligible.Until I see a game that's as visually leaping as crysis than I will start to say direct x11 is great until than, it's another marketing gimmick to me.
