Using my sig rig what kind of improvements would I see with buying a ATI 5850 for doing crossfire with that 5870 and the rest of my sig rig listed parts?

Think of adding a cut down 5870 to your system. It would be a great addition.

After you clock the 5850 to 5870 speeds, my guess is:

+50-80% improvement in average and max FPS
+30-70% improvement in min fps

It would be awesome! Even more awesome considering used 5850s are selling on ebay for $150. They OC really well too!

Gaming wise...."brettjv" nailed it with the improvement numbers.

I think I might be going with a 4890 instead due to money constraints..wondering if it would be worth it ?

You can't xfire cards with entirely different cores, thus 4xxx and 5xxx series can't be xfired.
