My T2i arrived! *Pics from the track*

EDIT: Got some pics from the track posted in post #51.

Well I got my first DSLR today, the T2i with the kit lens and added the 55-250mm telephoto lens, which will probably be upgraded later. I've just been playing around using the automatic modes and wow, what an improvement from what I'm used to with point and shoots!

Now, for my question. I'm a total newbie to photography. What would be the best way to go about learning how to use this thing to its potential? Any good books/guides out there for beginners?

If it helps, I just finished making a beginner's guide

Can't go wrong with "... for Dummies" as a brief intro.

Can't beat hands on experience. Enjoy. DSLR's are a world apart from point-and-shoots

Yeah, I think hands on experience is the main thing. My first goal is to learn the terms and how to apply them to using the full manual mode, since I'm assuming that's what leads to great pictures.

Pretty much lol.

I tried some Nikkon models at a camera shop and didn't like how any of them felt in my hand. I wanted 1080p video as well as a nice camera and since the T2i can do it at 30 FPS and fell within my budget that's what I went with. Its completely blown me away thus far but I'm pretty easy to impress when it comes to photography since all I used before this was point and shoots where 400 ISO was unusable due to grain.

Because it borrows the autofocusing system of the 7D, is capable of 1080p video @ 30FPS, allows for manual controls in video mode, improved high ISO performance to compensate for the higher megapixel count, and of course, takes great images like you'd expect from a DSLR.

Oh, and he had ~$900

I want your P&S. The ones I used had too much image noise at ISO200. It wasn't overly grainy, but it bugged me to no end.

It's this Panasonic here. It was ok-ish outdoors in bright light but omg it failed indoors. The flash would wash everything out, and of course grain all over the place without flash.
