External Hard Drive is Loud.....

OK so I've had this external hdd for a while now (it's a seagate 1.5tb) and the actuator arm sometimes swings back and forth very loudly. It doesn't do this all the time but I wonder if it's because the drive is gonna fail in the future. The drive has been defragged if anyone is wondering.

Should I be concerned? Should I get another drive (one that is at least quieter)?

Back up the contents of the drive and continue normal use. It may be a sign of failure, but Im not entirely sure.

It's been doing it for a long time so I'm not sure if it will fail :/

And it does it sometimes. Like maybe 2-3 times a month.

Just be sure you don't bump it when it's reading or writing and backup what's important to you.

Please post id string of drive within the enclosure -go to disk management or device manger click properties- details tab, then copy and paste hardware id string into your post.
(PS: Would be nice if you'd post model id of external.)

Example drive I received today id strings:

Fantom Drives GreenDrive 1TB External eSATA/USB 2.0 Hard Drive (GD1000EU)

ID's as:
USBSTOR\\DiskFANTOM__HDS721010CLA332_2.10
FANTOM__HDS721010CLA332_2

Which contains:
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C HDS721010CLA332 (0F10383) 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"

Suggestions:

1: Backup data
2: Go to external drive site and see if they have any apps to *test drive with.
OR With ID string - find mfg of drive itself- download their testing app(s).
*Drive may have to be removed from external to test.

Download apps that run from a COLD boot to remove OS from equation. Do FULL tests- several times...

When that is done look at OS problems.
