Weird 955BE Temp issue

Ok, I have a weird temp issue/question. it may not be anything, but I can't seem to find a direct explanation in my searches. Anyway, I'm running a Phenom II X4 955BE on an MSI790FX-GD70 board. It overclocks fine, but something weird has popped up.

When I "enable" core unlocking in the BIOS, the reported CPU temp drops a good 10-15 degrees C. It does not matter if I'm relying on the mobo's built in LED temp monitor or any number of software temp programs. When the unlocking of the cores is "disabled" in the BIOS the CPU temp reads between 40 and 45 C with each core reporting in at around 42-43. When I "enable" core unlocking the reported cpu temp is between 30-35 C (separate CPU core temps are unavailable when the cores are unlocked - I understand the AMD actually only has a single sensor on the chip and as a result, it is not possible to get individual core temps when the cores are unlocked).

My concern is that when I'm running the chip with the unlocked cores (which gives me the better reported CPU temps) that in reality the CPU is running hotter than is being reported since when they are not unlocked the reported temp is so much greater (Or, could it be that when the cores are locked the higher reported temp is in error and it's actually running cooler than it reports?)

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, explanations?

P.S. I realize that enabling/disabling "unlock" in the BIOS has no real effect on whether or not the 4 cores are in fact unlocked. My question is related to knowing how to asses the right CPU temp in the situation.

P.P.S. Oh, I'm using BIOS 1.16 (1.G)

Turn core unlocking off since you can't unlock any more cores....you have a quad core 955 already

As noted in my original post, I understand this. However, that doesn't really address the issue. If turning it on does in fact lower my CPU temp by 10+ degrees, why would I not want to have it on?

If I have it on, what temp is in fact being reported on the LED and in Everest, Sandra, etc.?
