RTS Games: *CoH or SC2*?

I thought I might start a little discussion on the two most popular RTS's to post replays on gamereplays.org, company of heroes and Starcraft2, which I think is good evidence of their popularity, with SC2 quickly set to have vastly more replays than CoH.

This thread may be better suited to discussion on gr.org, but its like beating a dead horse on there, you will get linked to 13 threads on the subject.

Anyways Im pretty hardcore into both WWII, and RTS's I like CoH because it has great gameplay. I have not tried SC2, other than it is vastly more popular and has a much stronger fan base that goes back easily 10 years, whereas CoH is still on its first run, but without making a rip on SC2, Justin Beiber is very popular right now, doesn't mean he is a great singer.

I also love the cover system, cover for the soldiers, the vehicles, a completely destructible environment, realistic in-game physics, realistic weaponry (I find using a sherman tank much more interesting and fun than a hovercraft-motorcycle you might find in SC2. CoH involves good micro is what seperates the good player from the bad and making use of all your abilities and finding cover for your units, from what I understand about SC2, it is more Macro oriented which might also encourage the dreaded no-skill blobbing involved in most RTS games, and does not have a unit cover system which to me is quite an important factor in video-games based on warfare.

Although CoH is popular, it does not have TOO much competition for me like SC2 would, particularly due to its following in S. Korea (Look up Gamers who have died from lack of sleep due to playing SC1 online). Ive never liked having lots of competition in a game even if its evidence of its popularity, one of the reasons I don't play CS:Source because of the competition.

With that being said, I respect SC2 and would like to know more about it without getting my information from bias'd CoH gamers, in the CoH chatroom. I would like to hear opinion from people who have tried both games, and ask you, which one has better gameplay? I assume graphix, their might be little competition since SC2 is a 2010 game and CoH is a 2006 game.

A thread that combines SC2 and Justin Bieber??!! I'm in!!!

Lol.. I really haven't played any RTS games since my old C&C Tiberian Sun days. That game had immense replay value. Shame nobody plays it anymore. I don't think I could get myself into SC2 though. My brain just doesn't work as fast as it used to, so I'll just stick to FPS and RPGs/sims

SC2 is quite fun for me when playing with friends, but so repetitive when it comes to actual gameplay in some of the lower brackets when people will only mass produce one thing and one thing only or only zerg it up and mass produce mutalisks which take forever to kill. Custom games are still amazingly fun though.

Company of heroes was fun and still has pretty good graphics for being a few years old. it is pretty fun and balanced to me, but if you have played men of war, then you will hate how troops can not crouch behind an object or wall or really go prone on command in CoH. CoH was kind of BS with some of the tanks while playing with friends.

say what you will about my opinions of both games, but SC2 is more fun with all of the custom games, while CoH can require a group of friends (at least for me) unless you like skirmishes.

As far as Im concerned that was a series of cut-scenes played out like an ad for a movie, more-so than an actual review of game-play. I guess if your into a game with a story-line, maybe SC2 might have us beat, on the other hand WWII is the most interesting time period in Human history since it was total war with all major nations with modernized weaponry and HUGE armies.

I havent played men-of-war, Im interested in it, but something like prone on command, almost seems like TOO much micromanagement. Snipers in CoH require intense micromanagement, as little as facing them the correct way so they get a shot off the fastest, I couldn't imagine the squads needing basic micromanagement commands like going prone to avoid getting slaughtered. I need to try MoW2, but is it for people who enjoy all the facets of micromanagement? I think its done by one of my fav. Flight-sim publishers, IL2:Sturmovik and its soon to be released, Battle of Britain: Storm of War

COH is my favorite RTS game of all time. If I could change one thing I would like to pick whichever army you want, instead of always having to be Axis vs Allies.

Well, try SC2, I think there's a demo out now. The two games are somewhat different, despite being RTS's. I prefer SC2, probably because I grew up with Starcraft, but CoH at the same time is unique with its cover system, etc.

SC2's competitive scene is pretty awesome, stressful at times, but it makes you want to keep on playing, figuring out what you could've done better during your game, figuring out a good build, figuring out good positions for your units, etcetc.
