You're right, they make quality keyboards and other input devices. Making quality sound is a different story. "Gaming gear" companies such as SteelSeries profit off the uninformed with mass marketing and aesthetically attractive designs but with little substance.
I highly doubt a company such as SteelSeries which started off as a two-person operation know anything about acoustics from a professional standpoint. Compared to heavyweights like Sennheiser, beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica, AKG, etc. SteelSeries audio equipment sounds more like a gimmick.
Ever wonder why you can never find who the OEM is for their headphones? or any other so-called "gaming headphone/headset" on the market?
Anything labeled as "gaming" is a marketing gimmick used to fool inexperienced or dumbed down people into believing that certain peripherals labeled as such is of higher grade when it is really no different than their standard counterparts albeit more keys and functions.
