I found it a nice bit quicker than my blue actually i think the blue is a bit slower than green lol

Black is geared for performance(so WD says)
blue is mainstream

the difference, I observed is that the average data transfer rate is higher in black
but it also runs hotter, compared to my pc running blue(or green)

No blacks are not any faster. Have a 5 year warranty vs a 3 year

Size of hd is more important than size:

1 TB > 640 black <> 640 Blue > 500 black <> 500 Blue > 320 gig black <> 320 gig blue etc

^this.

When i build customer PCs, i always use blacks just because they are faster and will give the customer much more satisfaction. i usually go with the 640gb 7500rpm wd black.

it gives great speed, programs open very snappy.

Blues are just run of the mill. nothing special.

So the 1TB HDD (Black or Blue) should be the same right? i thought the capacity didn't matter.
but it seemed faster

huh, learned something new:)

Blacks have better sustained rates and much better access times = better performance.

I have a black and am happy with it's speed for a hard disk drive.

The hottest I've seen my 1TB Black was 24c, but that's with a 230mm fan blowing straight into it's side in the front of my case.

http://www.overclock.net/hard-drives...ne-2-55-a.html

From OCN itself (min, max, average)

AAKS:
wierdo124 Western Digital WD5000AAKS 43.6 99 77
Greg121986 Western Digital WD5000AAKS-00A7B 42.6 90.4 71.7

AALS
BioHzrd Western Digital WD5001AALS 36 91.9 72.1

I also know in the 640 version they are close or if the aals is faster its barely

Googled AALS (Burst 211.6, Random Access 12.7ms, 96.1mb/s):

Between a Black 640 and a Blue 500, the black had a slightly quicker Windows 7 boot time. For overall use, I found that the Black was slightly quicker than the Blue.

However, when I ran HD Tune, I was surprised to see that the average transfer rate for the Blue outpaced the Black. Check this post for the HD Tune benchmarks for the Blue 500 and Black 640 (in SATA II and SATA III configurations).
