"ERROR: System Fan Has Failed!
Service PC to prevent damage to the system.
Press to continue"

I'm getting that everytime i start my HTPC

Spec:

Core 2 duo E6300
P5LP-LE mobo
3x1GB DDR2
HD 5450
430W PSU

All the fans are spinning and the only fan connected to the mobo is the CPU fan ... is there anyway i can remove that message ?

Should be an option somewhere in the BIOS to turn off CPU fan monitoring/warnings.

I had an EVGA socket 939 board that this happened on. My northbridge fan had stopped. After replacing it the alarm/warning still showed up. I had an option in BIOS under system health or something like that to disable it. Try looking in there somewhere.

go to your bios heath features on most boards and turn that off
post #6 of 9
Ditto BIOS setting.

lol my Gigabyte board would beep it's CPU fan failed alarm until the CPU fan spun up when I booted the computer. It looked like the Alarm was triggered before power to the fan was even supplied by the mobo. Super annoying.

I emailed the tech support about it and they didnt really have an answer.

I would first try resetting the bios by taking off the battery and replacing it after a few minutes. If that doesn't work then change the setting in the bios like others recommended.

I know this is an old post, but my info might help someone with the similar issue. I have a HP m7250n pc with the same MOBO P5LP-LE. I bought a new case and transfered all components to the new case and i got the same error: "ERROR: System Fan Has Failed!
Service PC to prevent damage to the system. Press to continue"

After clearing CMOS removing and replacing the batteries in the MOBO didn't help, i couldn't access the BIOS, finally i figured out that the Original Case fan should be connected to the MOBO, so i remove the new case fan and replaced the original HP case fan, the trbl went away. MOBO only detects the original case fan, maybe the speed, current draw could be the factor, but for now i am keeping the old fan, The HP Bios doesn't have any settings to change for fan speed, mayhave to update the BIOS using Windows XP.

It's due to the speed - the BIOS is programmed so that anything under X rpm is considered too slow to cool the CPU, and the alarm is set off. You can get around it by connecting the yellow lead from two fans to the CPU fan header - BIOS will read double the speed, and won't set off the alarm.
