is 5 ghz the new 4ghz? -Sandy Bridge - Page 5

I wouldn't pump 1.6v's through my 4 year old TANK q6600 65nm, and it can take it all day long.

Why the hell are people pumping 1.6v's through a 32nm chip?

Seems like early death for sure..

The reviewers must not like SB and thats why they are trying to kill them with high voltage

Theres no way in hell a SB can take the same voltage 24/7 as my Q6600 (1.59v) without catching on fire, lol. Its just not gonna happen. If you need anything higher than 1.45v for 5Ghz it will be hard for air coolers to keep temps low enough for 24/7.

Well whats being discussed is....temps aren't getting out of hand, but at 1.6v's the voltage is. The voltage is whats going to be the death of it, not the temps, heck they've already started the "SB = death of "aftermarket" coolers talk" due to how cool it runs

But you are right, a q6600 can take 1.6 and more, but its 65nm, do people honestly think a 32nm is going to take 1.6? when the 45nm quads were hardly taking 1.45v's LOL

I wouldn't do it, settle for 4.5ghz 24/7 and be happy

Anyone know the rated VID range for SB?

I know q6600's were VID'ed up to...1.5v

Hmm seem to be getting alot of these "what can SB do, I saw a pic and now I need to know" type threads...well in all honesty we cant tell you until they are released

I mean, I know that the SB architecture is supposed to be better and all but even with all the older Intel chips, wasn't 1.4 the maximum?

If I'm understanding this correctly, there's a maximum that all the current SB chips will able to achieve in terms of clock speed regardless of cooling.
well that was very old architecture..........

I posted a pic of my 32nm 655k @ 1.53v on the last page - and trust me.....iv had it @ 1.6v+ and its still good

After about 3 hours or more benching 2D and 3D it now needs only < 0.05v increase to be stable @ 4Ghz then it did before I started benching it.

EDIT: temps hitting 75 to 85 @ 1.6v sPI

no, because most chips wont even hit 5ghz

im guessing 4.4-4.8ghz will be the standard 24/7
