flash games cook my cpu

Thread Starter
Hi all,
I always enjoyed killing time with internet flash games. I recently started monitoring my temps and noticed that flash games cook my cpu. The gpu isn't heating up at all and I read that flash doesn't really use hardware acceleration so the burden is all on the cpu. My idle is around 35C and I just saw 62C while playing flash games for less than 15mins. I know I only have stock cooling but wow that's a lot of heat from a firefox window.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know an update that addresses this?

1.Whats your overclock?
2.Have you mounted the cooling unit properly?
3.Did you apply the thermal paste properly?
4.What are your prime small fft temps?

thanks for the response B7ADE. I'm completely stock. I haven't done anything to this rig except cleaning it out occasionally with compressed air.
1. no oc
2-3. its stock, I didn't mount it.
4. never ran it because this stock system doesn't seem bench worthy lol.

note: I played CitesXL on 1920x1200 mid setting for hours and never saw temps increase this fast nor this high.

I know the first piece of advice I would give myself is to invest in an aftermarket cooler for the cpu. I'm planning on building my first rig (sandy bridge) in a month so I don't see a point to putting money/time into my current rig. I know, I can be lazy.

Hmm, can you check to see if the fan is turning? Also, just run prime anyway so we can see if something is indeed not right, it'll be a good judge. Just run it for 5 mins(make sure its small fft) and stop it if temps go higher than 75. I've never run anything stock so I'm not the best judge of stock temps but 63C during a flash game is odd indeed.

Fan is turning, check.
Downloaded prime (p64v2511.zip, version 25.11) and preparing to run it. Is there anything I should do prior to running it to get the most accurate results? Should I restart first? I assume I should close all other programs, firefox, utorrent, speccy, etc right?

I know with the latest flash update, it adds the option to make flash gpu accelerated. Update flash, right click on a flash object (eg. youtube video) and hit settings. Then in the left tab, there should be an option to enable hardware acceleration.

ok so I went to grab a bite to eat and left my pc off during that time anyway. Came back and ran prime small fft for 3mins until test 2 finished. System started at <40C and reached 69C average before I called it quits. I think if I ran prime for 5mins or more it would get hotter and I don't want that. After stopping the test my temps went right back down to 54C and still slowly falling. I'm not sure exactly what conclusion I should come to with those results. It got really hot but it also cooled down quickly.

I'm off to try caffeinescandal's idea. I opened a youtube video, right clicked to open the adobe setting and found that "enable hardware acceleration" was already checked. Watching the youtube video didn't change the temps at all though. Went to a flash game and temps went up a little from 47C up to 54C. No temp change on the gpu. I will try some other flash games later and see if they affect the temp differently.

Thanks for the ideas guys!
