Phenom II X4 940 3GHz A2+ w/ M2N32SLI Deluxe

I have a M2NSLI Deluxe and I want to upgrade to a Phenom II X4 Quad-core 940 3GHz Processor A2+. I have the chance to buy one super cheap. Will they work together? I looked at the CPU list and with a beta bios update it with work with a Phenom II X4 Quad-core 945 3GHz Processor A3. Which I think is close to the same thing. Any help would be nice.

I have Phenom II 945 on M2N32SLI with 5002 BIOS and it works perfectly ( OCed to 3450Mhz with no problems, i think more is possible but i haven't tried). Since its basically AM3 version of 940, i think you will have no issues.

945 can do much more but fsb is the only way to overclock it so the installed ram has to be capable
and the heatsinks have to be up to the job of course.
3.6 is easy by 240 fsb.
up the volts to cpu a bit, mine took 1.3v to be stable,
drop the ram divider one notch
and the ht mutiplier to x9 instead of x10 and try benching,
it should be rock solid.

i have seen 4.2 ghz on the 945,but can only get 4.1 stable with mine.

the HT Link on mine can do quite well stably too, this is more important thean the cpu overclock as it is something you notice,
theres little to no perceptible lag as the bandwidth is increased by increasing the HT link,
i aimed for 3000 as it seems to be a sweet spot but overshot it slightly and got 38xx,
theres little noticeable difference with such a high ht link though so 3000 +/- would be good and of course isnt stressing the cpu so hard

Well to tell you the truth man I just want a stable 3.3 oc. I've tried before and failed as I am a noob to overclocking. Here is what I did previously. I manually upped the fsb to 220 manually in bios which took me to 3.3 but I had abunch of errors at start of windows. 2nd thing I tried which worked much better is that I used the AI overclock utility in bios and upped it to 10%... I saw it do the same thing as I did manually it upped my fsbb to 220 and put everything else on auto. I was able to get a much stable reading that way, but I would sometimes randomly crash. Not blue screen or pc would shut off but windows would just give me a game error. Never happens when I run It un oc. I tested the ram to be fine. Not trying to push it to 3.6 my zalman 9700 works but idk if it's up for that in Arizona. Ha
