noctua d14 beats megahelem and h70
^ Except as he stated above, he doesn't have room for a noctua so repeating that it's better is a moot point.

I personally love my H70, never get over 45c gaming.

Definitely get the Noctua NH-D14. Excellent temps and noise. Great customer service from Noctua ...will send you an additional set on fan clips to add a third fan for free

Looking at that motherboard, I doubt that any of the best air coolers will fit, the h50 or h70, maybe the Rasa kit, might be your best bet.

i sorta knew it's coming but still this is quite disappointing to hear...
i am kinda hesitant to H50/H70 mainly because incase of leakage or pump goes out and fry the cpu... with conventional heatsink/fan, you can replace it with case fan or whatnot but with watercooling, i have to replace the whole thing. also slight leak means game over...

has anyone installed NH-D14 on 780i board? i can live without fans for the dominator ram if it fits but it looks like i'm forced to go with H70...

price seems to be on par between H70 and D14 at the moment according to newegg though...

i may have to settle with Venomous X or Megahalems...

OP, I did not vote on polls, but i highly suggest you go with AIR COOLER. like Noctua NH-D14,
Prolimate Megahalems or hi-ended aircooler , CM 212+. A50/70, FRIO, whatever.

Anyway, I had experienced with Closed loop (H50), and the real WC H20 loop. the H20 loop is more performance and can be upgradeable/ MODIFY in future. H50/H70 are more limit and non-upgradeable. Plus I am against H70 (thick Rad) come with small tube, it runs very poor performance, IMO,

With a 690 he has room for a 170mm tall Archon, much less a 160mm Silver Arrow or a D14.

Much as I love my D14, the SA cools a fraction of a degree better and is quieter. The Archon cools better still, even with one fan, which makes it quieter than a SA. Add a second TY-140 and you get an even better cooler.

Since the D14 was the air cooling champ until the SA came out, and the SA was the air cooling champ until the Archon came out, an Archon with two TY-140's is the best air cooling we're likely to see: the Sandy Bridge cpu's don't need the cooling that Nehalems and Lynnfields need.

i dont like the dark knight with its annoying trashy rubber things for fans, if you want to unmount it then you would have to remove the stupid fans, which meant removing the rubber

it was a nightmare for me, thats why i went with the venomous x
fan wire clips are surprisingly much better and easier to me anyways

although i love D14 and silver arrow, i don't think it'll work in my system considering motherboard and the ram i'm running. i mean, i could probably make it fit but after seeing archon, i don't think it's worth the trouble... because of smaller size (relatively ) compared to silver arrow or D14, i'm very lenient towards Archon. where's the best place to get one of those and TY-140?
