is SB worth the upgrade over an i7 860?

Thread Starter
hello guys...

it's just as the title says, but let me first explain what I mean exactly in my question...

I am not asking regarding the overclock ability and whatnot... but I am asking about the new instruction set that is supposed to improve the video conversion and publishing them on the web, which don't exist in the i7s..
also I am asking about the new feature in SB, which gives more advanced 3D display, that's also not existent the i7s too...

so now as I am finalizing my new i7 860 build, which as you see comes with the the release of Sandy Bridge, I just wanted to ask whether those new features worth bothering about or they are mire marketing adds ??

what do you guys think ??

If you have no purchased anything yet, you should wait to see what the price of SB will be. There is really no reason to build an 1156 rig if SB is going to be in the same price range.

Can you still return it?

If so... most likely, yes. 'cuz it'll be around the same price give or take.

yet, there is no certain answer regarding what I asked specifically...

I am not asking about the value for money and the like...

I am just asking about the new features I talked about that are in the SB, and not in the i7s... so are they a big improvement for video conversion and 3D display ??

please review the first post to know what I am asking about.

It's not really worth upgrading if you are on a current Core platform, the new instruction sets don't really enable anything that is going to be THAT important. The video conversion only works if you get a H67 board which rules out dedicated graphics cards.

then I can understand that the new feature for video encoding/ conversion only works if the built-in-chip graphics working ?? and not with a discrete card ?

sorry if this is confusing.

One of the main reasons i really like the SB is the power consumption.
That, my friends, is a really great feature!

So, only for that, it's worth getting it! ehehehhe
I mean... comparing with an i7 TDP... it's amazingly low.
